Defined STEM - Aquariums: Measurement

Objective :
Make decisions about unit and scales that are appropriate for problem situations involving measurement. Understand and use formulas for the area, surface area, and volume of geometric figures, including cones, spheres and cylinders.

Specializing in saltwater aquariums, Nic Tiemens and Joe Pineda love the challenge of recreating a slice of the ocean indoors. They face the challenge of building sustainable homes for aquatic life, while meeting the obstacles of aquarium shape designs, space limitations, proper heating, and fish biology. In order to build their aquariums to the unique demands of their clients, they use a combination of math for volume calculations, temperature, and measurement); science for natural fish habitats and individual fish tolerance levels; and art for their designs.
